Dyeing yarn

Dottie is a pet ewe lamb. Her mother is Isabel and she is a red shetland. Dad is White Knight and he is a beautiful Border Leicester. Her wool was about 7 inches long and she has some luster.
Here I am soaking the yarn in some water and a dap of shampoo.
After draining for awhile, I laid the yarn in a large muffin pan, this one is very deep.
I mixed up peacock, Red, Black dyes in jars to pour over the different sections of the muffin pan.
This is what it looked like after pouring the dyes. I then covered the pan with foil and placed it in the oven on 180 for about 3 hours. The dye was all took up and the water left in the pans were clear.
This is the finished yarn. I wanted to knit socks so I chose to use more black . I plan to start knitting on the socks this week so check back and let's see what they looked like. If I don't like them....I will wear them in my boots...No Problem! But I love to play with dyeing and the use of color...I try to break the rules all the time.

  1. Oh what a beautiful blog. Love your yarn. Very nice!
Those little baby lambs are so precious. We helped a farm family with 2 of their orphans. It was a commitment!!!!!!

You commented on MJF and downloaded the stitchery. Thought I would come and say hi! If you do it on tea towels and want it smaller. Feel free to reduce the size.
