Hand Painting Wool Yarn with Dyes

I spun Wally's wool, he is a BL X Shetland Ram, and Wally is Ang's baby.  I had ordered 4 bottles of Country Classic dyes.
I soaked the yarn in some hot water with a little Dawn in it for about 30 minutes.  Meanwhile, we turned on the tea kettle and boiled water to mix the dyes.  We added one teaspoon of each dye in cups that I don't use.  We filled to about 3/4 c with the hot water and stirred.  We used this very concentrated mixture to paint the yarn with disposible foam brushes.
On this skein of yarn we started with the darkest first, Blue Berry.

We then added Spring Iris in random areas on the front and back of the yarn.  Remember the yarn is wet and the color blends.

We put the Hot Pink on last.
Please note we covered an old pizza pan with foil.  When we were done painting, we covered the yarn with foil and put in the oven at 190 degrees for 1 hr.  We then rinsed the yarn in very hot water with about 1/2 c. vinegar.

On the second skein of wool yarn we started with the hot pink.

This is the painted 2nd skein.

Both skeins turned out beautifully.  I then poured each of the left over cup of dyes in a large pots and added 2 quarts of water and this time I added the vinegar and dyed batches of wool with each color.  I will card the wool together before spinning.

The yarn is beautiful. I have been carding and blending the other wools that I was dyeing and it is turning out very nice. Wally has a luster to his yarn and the yarn is very soft and nice. mmmmm...what shall we make?
