Beautiful November Day

It has been a while since I blogged.  Life gets hectic.  I have been working, painting on the bathroom and kitchen remodel...we are about done.  Whoopeee!  Today was a beautiful day and after work, I changed and took off to visit the sheep.

Sadie is a great guard dog.  She was ready to play with me.  She stopped and gave me hugs.

Lady is the other half of the guardian dog team.  She is not as friendly but she does her job well and the sheep love her.  Everyone should have a flock of sheep to come home to and relax with.

My little buddies had to go on the walk with me.  Macy Sue loves to hunt with Steiner.  Her nose is to the ground and  she makes me giggle.  Her Boston Terrier ways are quick movements and the most loving dog that I have ever had.

 Steiner is a great little buddy too.  He loves squeak toys and loves to cuddle.  He goes with Danny everywhere.  He has given us such joy.

Mr Gray is a stray cat that came here a few years ago and never went home.  He is the most laid back cat ever.

We enjoy beautiful sunsets ...I love to do chores and put the farm to bed as the sun sets.  All the animals are fed and watered and gave some petting.  I feel so blessed.  

Back to work in the kitchen...copper backsplash is really pretty but I have cut the tips of my fingers so many times while putting up the 6 inch copper panels.

God bless  everyone...the snow will be blowing soon and I will be working in the fiber...Sheep breeding season will soon be over...about mid December...then we just wait till March to start lambing, shearing, and the process starts all over again.,

There is so many things that I want to knit and felt this winter...do you have plans for the snowy evenings this winter?

Another cold snowy day on the Spinning C

We had another snow last night.  The winds howled and the snow was coming down sideways...burrrrr...on this windy ridge.  I had trouble sleeping, was up and down to check on the temp and the snow.  13 degrees with the winds blowing at 5 am.   It is a light snow but drifting. 

I dreaded getting up and putting on the layers of clothes to feed but somebody has to do it!  I took a few pictures while I was out there just so that you can help me experience the cold with the love of my animals.

Sadie is happy to see me!   She is always standing on her hind legs at the fence waiting on me to come and play with her.  She gives me big hugs.





 Queenie comes running when she sees or hears me!  My little ball of wool.  Her wool is dragging in the snow.  She comes running when I come out to play with her.
She is so short the others are using her as a table.  Oh, well her wool will be hard to clean but Queenie is Queenie.

Snow difts at every door and gate and at the water.



This is the back side of the house and sheds.  Danny and I walked out into the west pasture to check on the cows and how much hay they had left.  They have enough for the next couple of days.  When we know it is going to snow, we feed extra in the trees and out of the wind and close to the cattle waterers. 
Back to the house to have homemade pancakes with warm maple syrup and a pot of hot coffee.
This is Sunday and today we will watch Dr. David Jerimiah and read our Bible.  We will pray for our family, friends, neighbors and this world.
  This afternoon, I will knit on Evan's baby gown while we watch football.  Packers vs Bears  and then the Steelers vs Jets.

This week I should receive 2 big boxes of yarn and rovings that I sent to the Illinois fiber Processing last May...Come back for pictures and then I will start dyeing some.  I am sending Marlyn a couple of skeins...can't wait to see what she knits up!



Guard Dogs for the Coffman Spinning C Sheep

This area has so many coyotes that I felt that I needed help guarding the flock. Sadie and Lady are doing just that. They stay with the sheep. They love the snow and the cold. Theses pictures were taken as they run down the fenceline when I leave our house and go south. They will run along the fence and bark at me. Aren't they beautiful?

lady has black around both eyes and Sadie has only one eye lined with black. Sadie also has very light brown ears and she is slightly larger than Lady and she is definitely the more aggressive and claims the Queen's position. Lady waits for Sadie to finish eating and lets Sadie be the boss.

They are sisters that are about 7 months old. They stay with our 60 head flock.

Spring of 2009 Lambs

I love my sheep. I really enjoy their wool! As you know I purchased White Knight a blue face Border Leicester last fall trying to get the wool that I want. The lambs were born in April and May and grew quit, their wool is lengthy and they have a gentle nature to them...at least most of them do.

I sold 13 head of ram lambs but still have over 60 head of sheep. I need to decrease my numbers but there are many pets...of course, I can not sell my pets. I also purchased 2 new pups that will grow up to be guard dogs. The girls' names are Sady and Lady. Sady is everywhere and the more dominent dog. She also likes to eat...lots!

I really like the wool on the lambs born from Shetland ewes. They are long and have a very consistent white fine wool from the front to the back.
