A Windy Afternoon on the Spinning C

Yo!...got a sec? I just got full of  green grass and the lady gave me some brome hay today too...you would think that she is trying to fatten us up....so where was I...oh yaa...so I decided to lie down here a minute and doing a little chewing.  The wind is blowing pretty good here today and my wool has been blowing all day...I know my wool is a mess but don't you think my eye make up looks good?

Hi! Teddy here.  The lady that comes out here everyday finally built some fences that I have to stay in...sure messes up the free spirit theory that I was working on.  Oh well, she tells me what a gorgeous boy I am everyday, pats me on my head and she can't keep her fingers out of my wool.  Annoying but I know she means well.

See how white my wool is?  It is staying much cleaner since she built those fences!

Lilly and Queenie coming in for a drink...mother and daughter.  Queenie likes to follow the lady shepherd around  and sometimes gets a good petting and when given the opportunity, picks pockets...loves the cell phone case.

Queenie, more wool and body than legs.  Hey, Lady wait up!  Do you need any help carrying out some grain tonight?  (It doesn't hurt to ask.)  Hey, I got an itch behind my ear...wanta take care of it while you are out here?
It's a beautiful day for being November 21st...sunny/cloudy and a little windy, we still have some green grass but I really like to romp in the snow...got any ideas when that will be happening?

Danny put on the new seat that Ang and Wayne got him for his birthday, put on a new power steering pump and all new hoses...about got the old Massey in tip top shape again.  Doing a test drive to just see how good the new seat feels and how she steers now.

The sheep act so content the last few days with the temps lower, green grass and hay to eat.  Sheep are on all the hill sides in the Meadow.

The Lady says that I get to stay...and that I think  I am the Queen of the flock...it has a lot to do with attitude and maybe this 6 inch long beautiful wool...don't forget the unique black spots on each ear and that I follow her around just because I am nosey!

Sheep pictures before shearing

John Connor (named by my granddaughter) is one of the best wool producers on the place. He is also a neat guy, personable, loveable, and very friendly. Bitsy is one of the oldest of my shetlands. Her wool makes beautiful yarn. White Knight, one of my rams, is a nice old boy and I always am thankful when he passes his wool on to his off spring. This is China, she is one of White Knight's off spring last year, her mother is a white shetland. Her wool actually drags the ground. I took a walk today, planted some timothy seed in the pasture, and of course wanted to get some pictures of the wool since next Friday is shearing day.

Foggy Football Sunday

Feeding time! There is always one that has no manners while eating.
I can't sneak up on the sheep in the fog...Lady and Sadie coming to check me out.
Here Lambie! Here Lamby! Come on, time to eat! Watch'em come running!
The last few days have been so foggy. Temps at 33-38 degrees. Perfect day to worship God, eat a big meal and watch the football playoffs. This is the 3rd time that I have been out with the sheep today. I get up early and turn them out into the big pasture, go out to feed the hay, and then back to get them in the barn lot for the night. I love to watch them and pet them. Most are pets and like me to pat and play with their wool....I am really admiring my wool. I like to feed Brome hay, it doesn't get as much VM in the wool.
I am a happy football fan, Brett and the Vikings won today. I am so happy that we can record on the Dish and come back and watch it. I am not one that can sit for a whole game, no matter how exciting.
I have a new wool rug started upstairs so I think I will go up and put on my blue grass music, old hymns and relax and weave alittle.
The new medal ball winder arrived and I think it is really nice but right now it is turning hard and the balls are really tight. Hope it loosens up some.
I am still working on my studio. Finding a nice comfy, neat, orderly place to work that inspires me is my goal.
Do you have a fiber studio, please share some pictures with me.

Guard Dogs for the Coffman Spinning C Sheep

The Spinning C Fiber Farm Flock
This area has so many coyotes that I felt that I needed help guarding the flock. Sadie and Lady are doing just that. They stay with the sheep. They love the snow and the cold. Theses pictures were taken as they run down the fenceline when I leave our house and go south. They will run along the fence and bark at me. Aren't they beautiful?
lady has black around both eyes and Sadie has only one eye lined with black. Sadie also has very light brown ears and she is slightly larger than Lady and she is definitely the more aggressive and claims the Queen's position. Lady waits for Sadie to finish eating and lets Sadie be the boss.
They are sisters that are about 7 months old. They stay with our 60 head flock.
